Questionnaire Evaluation

I have made a questionnaire which will help me with my research on a school magazine I am trying to create. I’ve asked 7 questions to random people in the school to have their opinion on what they would like to see in the school magazine.

The first question I asked was the person’s gender. I did this because I found that it is important to get the males and females view on the magazine as our school is a mixed school where both gender has a right. I have also made sure that I handed out equal amount of questionnaire to the females and males so that it will have a fair result in the end.
I questioned 20 people so I had 10 males and 10 females who filled this in.

The second question which I asked was “which of these would you like to see in our school magazine?” there were choices given to them to tick one box so that I could be more specific in creating my magazine.
Here were the results:

From my results you can see that sports come out most popular for males and fashion for females. Both Sports and Fashion are the most popular with Music and Arts not too far behind. So the results make a judgement on what I shall be putting in the school magazine.

The third question that I asked was “how much would you usually spend on a magazine?”
Here were my results:

From my results I can see that the cheaper the magazine is the better sales I would get from it. As most people say they wouldn’t spend over £5 for a magazine.

Next question asked was “which of these colours would attract you at first sight?”
Here were my results:

From these results I can see that blue is the most popular colour that attracts the reader’s attention and yellow which is unpopular on both gender categories.
Next question in which I asked was “what gets your attention on the front cover of the magazine?” and here were my results:

From my results that I have gathered information that more people find that images are the first thing they look at on a magazine before the fonts, colours etc. You can also see that gifts doesn’t impress because maybe everyone has grown out of the free presents which magazines give you.

The next question that I asked was more open. I asked “what wouldn’t you want in the magazine”. I asked this because I don’t want to waste space in the magazine and make it so boring that no one would want to read it.
I couldn’t come up with a table for this result because there were all different answers and some did not answer.
The next question I asked was “Do you read any other magazines?” because I felt this would also help me to know what type of genre people would like to see in the magazine.

British Television Drama - Skins

For this part of my course I have chosen to do Skins from the broadcasters of Channel 4 and E4. Skins is basically a British teen drama which shows the audience the lifestyle and culture of teens who are currently studying at sixth form level. I wouldn't say it shows the positive side of teenage culture but there are moments where you would see glimpses of the teenagers achieving something positive in their college years.
This drama totally explores the lifestyle of teenagers on there worst behaviours including teens having unprotected sex, drug addicts, teenage boys going to jail and often moments of violent behaviours.
This drama in fact shows the audience a lifestyle they probably didn't know of if they hadn't lived in Britain before, the representation of females are mainly of bitchiness and the male representation are more dominant as they have characters which take over some parts of the episodes physically when they are in danger or trouble.

Skills Audit

My main strengths are both working in a group and working independently. When working to create a piece of written work I think that working independently gets the best result. In general I think that I could recognise the audience of various media text well but when recognising representation and institution I think I would need more work on. When creating a piece of work from publisher I think I work best in pairs or in a group where I could share ideas with the members in the group to make piece of work which stands out.
I have never made websites or digital videos on the computers before but I know most of the software’s which could make them so I need improve on this by creating one of these products. Another one of my strengths would be having knowledge on all types of camera shots which are used in films and knowing the emotions they express in every scene. I am interested in making a few audio pieces but not really sure on the functions on how to make them. I’ve had experiences on using a camera to take photos and then publishing them on to a computer system for editing also confident on using PowerPoint to present my work. A main weakness of mine would be evaluating my own work as I do not know where I would need to improve my work.
