| This question I asked if the participant read any music magazines. This helped me find out what I needed to do so that I can make more people get into music magazines. |

How is age represented in the extract of white girl?
The opening scene see's a establishing shot, in this shot we see a small figure of a young girl on her bike making her presence into the frame of the camera shot. As this is happening there is non-diegetic music playing in the background which connotes the theme of childhood.
The next shot we see is an extreme close up of the girls trainers where she is pedaling at quite a speed, this suggest to the audience that she is a thrill seeker and represent all children at her age love to do everything with high energy. The camera shot then shows the audience a low angle shot of the young girl enjoying her time on the bicycle as the sun is shining in the background as well as music playing reflects on her upbeat attitude.
In the same scene we see the girl enter what seems to be a small cafe and the mood changes to a more darker and suspicious scene, this suggest that the girl may have a mysterious relationship with the shopkeeper which might develop later on in the narrative.

The next scene the audience watches the girl enter a room with adults where she seems to act more timid around, this suggest the range of power which children have towards the adults in this particular household. As the girl hands over some money to the father there is a reverse shot which shows the relationship which the father has with his children. In this shot we see a modern working class family living in a council estate where all the rooms looks very narrow.
The scene then cuts away at a pace and the mother and the children are now on a run, this suggest that danger which they (the mother and children) are in when the father is around. In this shot we see the adults being more of the child and the kids being the mature ones keeping quite and doing as they are told. We also see the girl holding on to a soft animal toy which suggest this is more of the children's side of comfort rather than being at home.
When the family arrive at the new house without the father, the young girl shows a more mature side of her as she argues with her mum to fight for her place in the household like how a young adult would do, she then flings herself onto the undone bed sulking which suggest that although she may think like an adult the girl has her moments of having a natural child behavior.
In the next scene we see the use of ellipsis as the girl falls asleep, to make the scene feel as though it is running she looks out the window where she can see her mother and friend having an adult conversation about alcohol and drugs, this suggest that as a child she shows her vulnerability of being in raw adultery subjects which might put herself in danger when her mother is not around.
How is power represented in Life of Mars?
In this short clip we, as audience can see many of the different editing techniques which the director decides to create. In the beginning of the clip we see a male (Sam) and female (Mia) discussing a case which they look to be working on, the first editing used in this scene is a shot/reverse shot which shows the intensity of their relationship. During this clip we see that both characters have a equal amount of camera time which could suggest that no character has full authority at this point. Another shot is then used, an eyeline match where Sam looks to the direction of Mia and more camera time is now being focused on Sam which could imply he has news which would change the narrative. Sam then decides to remove Mia off the case, this could then suggest he is the one that is in charge and has more power in the workhold.
The scene then ends with an ellipsis, this makes the audience feel as though time has passed. The scenery has changed with Sam making himself coffee whilst Mia is no where to be seen. During this period the director decides to create a long take on Sam in which it feels as though the scene has been running for some time. Sam receives a call from Mia, she decides to take the risk and investigate further into the case by herself which could then suggest that Mia has an rebelious side to her character which shows she has as much power that Sam has. Sam then becomes powerless as Mia puts herself in danger.
The next scene begins with cut-away, as Sam pulls his car into the driveway we see the sign "stachmore road" which is covered in dirt to show that it isnt a rough and unpleasant place to be in. He then links in with the scene of the crime where there are uniformed officers and he is in his suit which suggest the authority he has within that area. Sam is now placed in a park in front of some children swings, laying on top of seat of the swings is a blooded shirt which the audience assume that it belonged to Mia. This shows the Juxtaposition as the childrens park would be an area of quiet and peaceful but showing the evidence you then think differently. The scene then ends with a high angle shot would could be through the eyes of the killer.

Our friends in the north
Our Friends in the North is a British TV Drama set in the North East of England and broadcasted during early 1996. This is because it has fully rounded characters with authentic regional
accents. It also uses real political and social events specific to Newcastle and Britain as a whole during the era portrayed, including general elections, police corruption, etc.
In the beginning of the clip Nicky arrives back from the USA and he goes to visit his girlfriend. There is a mid-shot whilst his girlfriend’s mother answers the door to him, but she doesn’t seem happy to see him. This could indicate to the audience that Nicky has disappointed his girlfriend in the past so her mother doesn't approve of him.
Nicky and his brother (Geordie) have a very typical male relationship. They both know that they
love each other but they prefer to hide their feelings with quick insults and sarcasm.
As Geordie enters Nicky's bedroom, there is a slight long shot of the bedroom. There are many posters of Civil Rights activists to represent Nicky's support of the Civil Rights Movement. But Geordie's views are the completely opposite
The narrative shows many typical values of families (not just Northern ones). They sit
around the dining table as a family as Nicky’s family give him his birthday presents.
We also notice that Nicky acts childish whenever he receives a gift which contrasts his appearance of a mature, young man
